My name is Tyler Pittman, and I live in Shelbyville, IN. I am an aspiring software developer with a keen interest in game development, open source, data science, and anything to do with spreadsheets. I am committed to a thorough, self-taught approach to learning software engineering, avoiding shortcuts to ensure a deep understanding. I am also a proud Linux enthusiast. I hope to eventually enroll in college again to finish my degree.
My passion for computers started early in life. Growing up in California gave me an advantage, allowing me to engage with computers before they were widely adopted elsewhere. My first experience with a computer was as a toddler, playing Apache Helicopter on my dad's Windows 95 PC. By elementary school, I was disassembling and reassembling computers. In middle school, I had my own website, and in high school, I enrolled in multiple computer programming classes.
To further illustrate my long-standing interest in computers, I was gifted an old HP with Visual Studio 6 and the K&R C programming book in middle school. This computer, with its Pentium II processor, marked the beginning of my journey into programming. My second computer was a PowerMac G4 with 128MB of RAM and less than 30GB of storage, my first and final Mac.
